Dear all,
I noted that after upgrading to 2023 documents using german.sty and latexsym.sty do not compile:
---------
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{german}
\usepackage{latexsym}
\begin{document}
\end{document}
---------
---------
(/usr/local/texlive/2023/texmf-dist/tex/generic/german/german.sty
v2.5e 1998-07-08
Package: german 1998/07/08 v2.5e Support for writing german texts (br)
\grmnU at D=\dimen141
german -- \language number for Austrian undefined, default 33 used.
)
(/usr/local/texlive/2023/texmf-dist/tex/latex/base/latexsym.sty
Package: latexsym 1998/08/17 v2.2e Standard LaTeX package (lasy symbols)
\symlasy=\mathgroup4
LaTeX Font Info: Overwriting symbol font `lasy' in version `bold'
(Font) U/lasy/m/n --> U/lasy/b/n on input line 52.
/usr/local/texlive/2023/texmf-dist/tex/latex/base/latexsym.sty:59: Missing numb
er, treated as zero.
<to be read again>
\protect
l.59 ...reMathSymbol\mho {\mathord}{lasy}{"30}

I am aware that german.sty is outdated and replacing \usepackage{german} by \usepackage[ngerman]{babel}
fixes the problem.
Just figured I should let you know.
Thanks for your time and effort!
Gerald
