[XeTeX] Polyglossia 1.0.2: babelshorthands broken?

Hi,
There's a new feature in Polyglossia 1.0.2 that I'd really like to use:
The "babelshorthands" option enables all the fine-tuning macros that
Babel offers for hyphenating in the German language. The manual
explicitly calls this option experimental, but I haven't been able to
use it at all so far.
Does this compile for anybody?:
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
%%!TEX encoding = UTF-8 Unicode
%%!TEX TS-program = xelatex
\documentclass{minimal}
\usepackage{polyglossia}
\setdefaultlanguage[babelshorthands=true]{german}
\begin{document}
Hier könnte Ihre Nachricht stehen!
\end{document}
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
What I get is this error:
> ! Missing { inserted.
> <to be read again>
> „
> l.8 \begin{document}
>
> ?
> Process aborted
Thoughts?
Gerrit.
