Hi
The leqno option of LaTeX, more or less does something in the following lines
$$
1+2=3\eqno\hbox{%
\hbox to .01pt{}
\rlap{\hskip-\displaywidth
(1)}}
$$
$$
1+2=3\leqno(1)
$$
\bye
to fake \leqno using \eqno. Of course, one can also go ahead and fake \eqno using \leqno.
What are the possible side effects of such approach? should it be avoided?
Vafa
