[pretest, installer]: Broken pipe error when trying to change TEXDIR

I'd change to C:/applications/texlive/2024. But it has nothing to do
with this particular path. The error occurs immediately after clicking
the "Change" button. I don't even have the chance to type anything in.

All the other buttons work fine. It's just the one for TEXDIR that
fails.
