Early this morning, about 1am Mountain Daylight Time (7am UTC/GMT),
the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT, USA, suffered a power
outage that lasted for about two hours.

While the machine room in the math.utah.edu domain stayed up, thanks
to its large UPS and diesel generator, all desktops and printers in
our buildings went down, and even those with local battery backup
systems did not have enough capacity to survive the lengthy outage.

Besides taking down machines, the outage also interrupted network
services, some for as long as 9h15m, because some (but not all) switch
ports went into a garbled state, and required manual cable unplugging
and replugging to return to service.

After about five hours of work by systems staff, network service has
now been restored, and the hosts

	ctan.math.utah.edu
	ftp.math.utah.edu
	rsync.math.utah.edu
	tug.ctan.org
	www.math.utah.edu

are once again visible on the Internet.

Archive mirroring was likely inactive during the night, and thus, our
archive mirrors may take several hours today to catch up to their
master sources.
