Sorry, I expressed that badly. What I meant was that it's not relevant 
that *I* am running Mint, because I am trying to document this for all 
users on any OS.

I do :-) I am just trying to find out what set of fonts a new user of a 
new installation (TL, Deb, Mac, Win) can expect to use immediately. 
Hebert Voß has posted a useful list of those which will work because 
there are packages supporting them.
