[OS X TeX] OT: help with font embeddings

I confess that I have never applied a patch before -- live and learn  
-- so
I followed your instructions to this point, placing pdf-3.01pl1.patch in
the xpdf-3.01 folder and running

patch -p0 <xpdf-3.01pl1.patch

but I got this error message:

17:52 xpdf-3.01% patch -p0 <xpdf-3.01pl1.patch
can't find file to patch at input line 4
Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?
