An interview with Donald Knuth

This interview comes from the book Mathematical People: Profiles and Interviews, edited by Donald J. Albers and G.L. Aelxanderson, published by Birkhauser, Boston, 1985. The interview was scanned and posted to the TUG website with the generous permission of Birkhauser of Boston. The interview was done by Donald J. Albers and Lynn A Steen.

The sets of interviews in Mathematical People and its sequel, More Mathematical People, gave us the idea for the TUG Interview Corner. We highly recommend these collections of interviews published over a number of years in the Two-Year College Mathematics Journal. In their preface to Mathematical People, the editors state that they were inspired by E.T. Bell's Men of Mathematics.
